Showcasing films from the Creative Commissions series—a collection of collaborative grants between the UK and countries around the world that combine arts, science, and technology to tackle the climate emergency.

This includes the Climate Stories playlist, which explores what the climate crisis means to different people—personally, politically, and culturally—through unique narratives that reflect relationships with homeland, community, indigenous culture, and climate change, and that convey a vision of hope, courage, and change.

Screenwriter, writer, playwright, theatre curator. The member of the Union of Theatre Workers of Azerbaijan. The participant and the winner of international playwriting festivals and contests.

The play ‘Gardens of Astara’ was staged in 2022 at the ‘Sham’ theatre in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The curator and the organizer of the CHARACTERS Modern Drama Festival (Baku, Azerbaijan). The screenwriter of the short, animated film ‘Hadis’ (2023, Azerbaijan, USA, Czech Republic) which participated in the competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2023 (Perspectives Short Films; Annecy, France). At the moment (November 2024), there are 9 feature films at the pre-production and post-production stages, the scripts for which were created with the participation of Ismail Iman, including a historical biopic ‘Taghiyev’ dedicated to the millionaire and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev (1838–1924).

Ismail Iman

Monomita Nag-Chowdhury

Monomita is Director of Climate Change Programmes at the British Council.

Monomita is based in London and is the Climate Programmes Lead at the British Council. She leads and coordinates global climate related programme work across Education and Culture. At COP26, COP27 and COP28 she worked with partners to share innovative solutions to the climate crisis. She is building on this legacy and momentum for COP29 as well as focussing on new initiatives. She has a background in Education. Her experience includes working as a Senior Teacher in English Language Teaching (ELT); developing and leading global youth and community programmes and delivering training across the world as an intercultural facilitator to address global issues working with NGOs and Universities.
