Climate Justice and the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Climate Action is about making sure that people with disabilities aren’t left behind in the fight against climate change.
While climate change impacts all of us, those with disabilities often face extra challenges that make it harder for them to cope with things like extreme weather, rising sea levels, or natural disasters. The barriers they face can include things like inaccessible emergency services, transportation, or buildings that aren’t designed with their needs in mind. Climate justice is about ensuring that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, is treated fairly when it comes to responding to climate change. This means listening to people with disabilities, making sure they have a seat at the table when decisions are made, and designing solutions that take their unique needs into account. Whether its making sure public spaces are accessible during a flood, or that disaster relief efforts provide adequate support for those with mobility impairments, the goal is to create a world where no one is left behind, no matter their abilities.
This conversation also pushes for people with disabilities to be active participants in shaping climate policy—not just as recipients of aid, but as leaders in building solutions. It’s about recognizing that climate action is not just about saving the planet, but about creating a more inclusive and just world for everyone.
